The Galveston County Citizen Sheriff's Academy is a 38-hour block of instruction designed to give its graduates a working knowledge of the Sheriff's Office structure and function. The academy is 12 weeks with classes to be held on Tuesday from 7:00PM to 10:00PM. The training is conducted at a location that is convenient for the participants and the enrollment is limited to 50 per session. Each attendee is allowed to miss 10% of the training. However, if a participant is forced to miss more than 10% arrangements can be made for them to make up the needed class at the next academy so that they may receive their diploma. Deputies, supervisors and personnel with specialized expertise as well as the Criminal District Attorney will provide the instruction.

The Galveston County Citizen Sheriff's Academy is designed to provide detailed information to the citizens of Galveston County concerning the role of the Sheriff's Office within their respective community. It is also the goal of the Citizen Sheriff's Academy to increase law enforcement awareness and to forge partnerships between law enforcement and the community through the educational process. This allows the Sheriff's Office to be more aware of the feelings and concerns of the community from the participant's interaction and input. The Citizen Sheriff's Academy is truly a two-way learning experience. Any interested citizen who resides or works in Galveston County is encouraged to participate in this exciting and educational program. All participants must be at least 16 years of age.
 CSA graduates are also encouraged to join the Galveston County Citizen Sheriff's Academy Alumni Association. This is an all volunteer community based organization the supports the GCSO employees and the community as well.
