Welcome to the web page for the Galveston County Medical Examiner's office. The following information is provided to assist the public with questions they may have about the GCME.
The GCME Office was established in 1972 by the Commissioner's Court. At the present time the GCME conducts death investigations for Galveston County and conducts autopsies for Fort Bend, Matagorda, Brazoria, Colorado, and Wharton Counties. The Medical Examiner's Office is charged with determining the cause and manner of death of persons who die in Galveston County, in accordance with Article 49.25 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
