ROLE OF THE DISTRICT CLERK


 

The District Clerk's Office has several functions that are extremely important to the integrity and efficiency of the judicial process. One of the most important functions of the District Clerk is the selection of jurors for the six District Courts and three County Courts of Galveston County. The District Clerk also provides jurors to Galveston County Justice of Peace Courts and City of Galveston Municipal Courts upon request. Recording and maintaining court records is absolutely necessary to function of the judicial process. The District Clerk is designated as the custodian of all records relating to or lawfully deposited in the clerk's office. These records include all court pleadings and papers that are part of any cause of action, civil or criminal, in the courts
served by the District Clerk. In addition, the clerk is required to index and secure all court records, collect filing fees, and handle funds awarded to minors.
