POLICIES AND PROCEDURES OF THE COURT

                                                CIVIL CASES

STATUS CONFERENCES

All status conferences are held on Thursdays at 1:30 p.m., approximately 120 days from the filing of the original petition.  Check your “Case Information Sheet” for such date.  If the S/C needs to be reset, please fax your request before such date.   Failure to appear at the status conference or submit a Docket Control Order on such date may result in your case being dismissed for want of prosecution.

See form DCO-CIVIL

MOTIONS

All motions should be filed with the County Clerk’s Office.  The Court does not accept fax filings. An extra copy for the Court is not necessary at the time of filing; however, a courtesy copy at the time of the Motion hearing is appreciated.

The party filing said motion(s) is responsible for notifying all parties, pro-se included, of any hearing/submission date.

Motions for Summary Judgment are set for oral hearing. Once said motions are filed, the Court Coordinator will contact the attorney with a hearing date.

Cancellations of a Motion hearing can be faxed to the Court.

JURY TRIALS

Jury trials are held on Mondays.  Pre-trial motions will be heard at the pre-trial conference, which is held two Fridays before the jury trial. Pre-trial conferences are scheduled for 10:00 a.m.

You will be advised at the pre-trial conference where your case is positioned on the jury docket and what time you need to be present to pick a jury.

Mediation is required in all civil  matters, unless waived for good cause with permission of the Court.

CONTINUANCES

Continuances should be filed in time for the Court to consider such continuances before the pre-trial conference date. The accompanying Order should include a space for a pre-trial and trial date. If the case is continued or not reached, it is the responsibility of the attorney(s) to get a new trial date from the Court coordinator.  Failure to do so may result in your case being dismissed for want of prosecution.
